This was a challenging infill on historic Sutter Street in Old Folsom. The site was only accessible from Sutter Street and required mass excavation into the hillside and a 40-foot-tall cast in place concrete and block retaining wall. The combination of these two systems proved to be the be most economical and assisted in constructability. Other obstacles with the retaining wall construction were encountering rock and having to dewater. Erection of structural steel and framing was equally as difficult on the confined site. The 3-story 12,000 square foot mixed use building included retail at the ground level, offices at the second level and two luxury apartments overlooking the town and Lake Natoma.
