Sudwerk Brewing Co.

A.P. Thomas Construction transitioned Sudwerk Brewery, a landmark destination in Davis, CA, from a 1980s classic to an updated modern-style restaurant and bar. The improvements included updates to the kitchen, dining and banquet hall, restrooms, exterior patio, ADA parking, and added a full-scale bar. The kitchen was entirely transformed with new finishes and updated food service equipment. Two important factors of this project were maintaining the original copper kettles and creating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor seating areas. With these aspects in mind, the design focused around the 1980s copper kettles, that are still in use by the brewery, as the show-stopping center piece at the relocated main entrance to the restaurant. In addition, large awning-style windows were installed at the newly added bar tying the open concept indoor seating with the live entertainment stage at the exterior courtyard. It was essential to our client that the patio was inviting and versatile, so a shade sail structure, string lights, gas heaters, misting system, and three large fire pits were added. Renovating the restaurant while the brewery was still in operation proved difficult; however, it was all possible with teamwork.
